Young Reporters is an informal group for young people to become a positive voice for Oldham and review events across the borough. Working in partnership with the Coliseum’s Education and Outreach Department the group have been exploring journalism, new writing and incorporating the use of drama/performance. Each participant has the opportunity to build up a portfolio of work and reviews are to be posted on Festival, Coliseum and partner networking sites, getting the 'youth view across'. The group has received some great feedback, including 4 participants from Crompton House School receiving Head teacher’s awards. The group has met with reviewers; the Coliseum’s Press Officer, a journalist from the Oldham Advertiser, interviewed a playwright and has all their hard work on display at the Coliseum during Wordsmith, the new writing festival. The group has been given all of the necessary resources and information, it is now up to them, to use their own initiative, get the inside scoop on what’s going on around Oldham and get their voices heard.
